  • Visual hilight when clicking Menu / Home / Back buttons
  • A helpful tools package installed by default
  • and probably some more things too – check out our issue-tracker for the details

Here it is:

  2. steve says:

so its been quite a few months now any new updates on this?

    • tbr says:

We have development code for gen7 atop cyanogenmod (together with gen8). It’s open for volunteers.

  3. akthm11 says:

what are you busy with gen 8 while the people with gen7 are stuck with donut ?

    • tbr says:

We are always asking for more people to join and help. We’re currently a very small group of people.

Just a tiny reality adjustment for you and everyone else thinking that they are entitled to something from us: We do this in our precious and limited free time.

      • steve says:

Since you have such a small team would it not make more sence to work on one project at a time?

        • tbr says:

That’s what we do, there are people who have gen7 only and people who have gen8 only. A tiny fraction have both. People tend to work on what they have.

  4. steve says:

good stuff. do you think you are getting close to a beta release soon?

  5. akthm11 says:

hey thats a nice one you got there
but can i please ask this question
are you gonna make a 3g tethering just like the original archos for this one

  6. tcheaz says:

    keep up the good work!
can’t wait for a fully working and easy to install version!

  7. Dennis says:

I can boot the regular Archos code, or the Angstrom, but Froyo just hangs on the “openAOS” screen.

I’ve loaded the alpha5 code, together with the zimg and the initfs.

Why would it just hang on the “openAOS” screen?

    Thanks!
    Dennis

    • Dennis says:

Never mind, fixed. Now everything seems to work except Froyo will not open the SD card – - where all my stuff is, of course.

      • David says:

On mine, it appears that the OS thinks the internal hard drive is the SD card, so it won’t recognize the actual SD card, does anyone know how to fix this?

        • tbr says:

Known bug, will be fixed in Gingerbread.

  8. uri says:

    Hi,
I just installed moboplayer and can watch videos on froyo alpha 5. still don’t know how to get it to see videos from my local network, but it feels like it is doable.
    thanks guys!

    • akthm says:

i gotta way just reboot your archos then run to the recovery menu and then developer menu>access hdd to computer or something like that then just plug it to your computer making sure you have ext2 volume manager installed and thats it

  9. steve says:

    More to come?
    beta version?

  10. Hayaser says:

  12. justme says:

uhm… the openaos source seems to be at least 5 months old. why is that?

    • tbr says:

That’s not correct, there is constantly work ongoing. Always depends where you look.

  13. lupo says:

I am actually looking for a way to unpack the archos firmware, or if somebody can give me already unpack one.

    • tbr says:

It’s described well on the wiki.

    • Ekkolous says:

You may need Linux for that. Download and install Ubuntu 10.04 or above.

  14. JB says:

    Thanks Guys!

  15. Jacob says:

hi guys, sorry but im kinda a noob about this but, how do i install this?
Is there a guide somewhere? I realy wanna try this :D

    • tbr says:

This is not intended for the average noob, sorry. If there will be something intended for a broad audience then it will be of course easy to install.

    • akthm11 says:

hey dude i’ll try to make a video about the the entire thing and tell you how to do it (SHOW YOU!!!!) “with voice”

  16. lupo says:

Can anyone help me to install this release to my Archos, but I really need a lot of help as I am so new with these stuff and the wiki is hard for me to understand.

    • tbr says:

This is not intended for ‘newbies’ sorry. Wait until there is a more stable version and an easy installer. thanks!

      • akthm11 says:

oh this one one is allmost perfect but my problem is the usb
i cant plug my archos to the computer without the recovery way
is there a fix for that thanx

  17. max says:

i have problem my wifi doesnt work what i need to do ?

    • tbr says:

Make sure that you are also able to boot the original Archos firmware from the boot menu. Else wifi will NOT work.

      • ZENiC says:

Can you elaborate? I left both the original and the SDE firmware file in the root but was still unable to use wifi. I am currently switching to Donut when I need that function.

        • tbr says:

          a) This is still alpha grade so there might be some things not 100% smooth
          b) The donut firmware has to be booted at least once and WiFi has to have been on before you install Froyo. That way it should work. If it still doesn’t check in on our chat and we’ll try to help you.

      • phil says:

I am having the same problem with the wifi and i am able to boot the original archos firmware

  18. HackSign says:

    Hi Guys,

That’s a nice build, much faster than the original android 1.6! But Voice search is not working and I use it a lot on my cell phone!

    Could you please help me?

    • tbr says:

You are free to file an issue over at our issue tracker, but don’t expect it to be very high on our list.
Please also read the page on how to file issues there.

  19. arno says:

    thank you, again

  20. Ben says:

Great guys! keep up the good work

  21. Ekkolous says:

Can we play music now (besides the Dr. Mad’s short ringtones)?

    • tbr says:

I think ogg/vorbis should work. Other codecs are so far not supported (this is also a licensing issue).

      • Capn_Fish says:

        What about FLAC?

        • Blackburn says:

I installed poweramp and it now plays mp3′s!! It’s a 15 day free trial and then you have to pay for it…

          • Ekkolous says:

Really? I installed and right after it says “trial is expired”.

        • illifant says:

My one does not see FLAC files at all

  22. rikere says:

    I second the woo!

I haven’t installed *yet* but I really can’t wait to try it out…

  23. Raz says:
